Gearing Up For Grants: It's Time to Prepare

Grant season is upon us, and much like other seasons – it is in your best interest to be prepared. It isn’t wise to go skiing without skis or to the beach in the summer without sunscreen. Grant season also requires preparation for yourself, your immediate team, and the rest of your organization. Gearing up for Grants is a series of resources designed to help you prepare and thrive during grant season. National Safe Place Network (NSPN) is an organization full of staff with decades of direct youth care work experience who care about your organization and strives to provide you with helpful information and support so you may continue to serve youth and families. Together we can create a world where all youth are safe.

Program support is a team sport!

  • Have a discussion with program staff about the difference they are making.  How would your community look if you weren’t there?
  • Invite youth to the conversation.  How has their experience in your program(s) improved their lives? Does your program do what it says it will do for young people?
  • Reach out to community partners for Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) or letters of support.
  • Use the “Tearless” facilitation process to develop logic models that demonstrate how your efforts are improving outcomes for young people.
  • When writing for runaway and homeless youth (RHY) program funding, explore “Here for Good: Sustaining Your RHY Program with Local Support” for collaborative activities for sustainability of RHY programs.
